Communicating with Patients with Special Needs

Activity Goals

1.      Student will learn about and demonstrate strategies to communicate with patients with the following special needs:

a.     The visually impaired, the hard of hearing, and patients with aphasia

b.     The newly disabled

c.     The dying patient

d.     Patients with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia

e.     The angry patient

2.     Students will practice reading and answering multiple choice questions similar to communication questions on the final exam and the state certification exam.
